About Kimberly

Kimberly has a Bachelors of Music in Vocal Performance from Shenandoah University and Conservatory and has performed in numerous musicals, operas, and solo performances, most recently playing Sister Margaretta in The Sound of Music at Bowie's 2nd Star Productions (Nov/Dec 2022).

In the past she has been the vocal coach for Central Middle drama club, a co-director of a Show Choir, and the vocal coach for the musical theater troupe at South River High, and most recently directed "Alice in Wonderland" at Annapolis Area Christian School. She has also music directed and directed musicals with CMS, AACC Middle, In Harmony Youth Players, and with her own company, Barker Studios360. 

Kimberly currently teaches voice with the AACPS APEX Arts magnet program at Broadneck High School, and Studio 39. She is a lead vocalist on the worship team at Mariners Church in Annapolis. Kimberly loves finding/creating musical opportunities for her students. 

About Lessons

In lessons we will work on posture, breathing, aural skills, expanding range, vocal technique, and repertoire.

We will work on pitch awareness, projection, expression, vocal control, dynamics, resonance, and flexibility to release jaw tension in order to achieve your goals. You will learn how to support your sound and train your muscles in order to sustain notes by learning how your posture and alignment affect your singing. You will learn dramatic exercises and song interpretation to help build character and overcome stage fright and performance anxiety.

We will work on songs, training in the classical style, which are best suited for your voice to further your vocal growth and strengthen your sound. You will also gain knowledge about vocal repertoire, musical styles, basic music theory and solfege. Please see the policies section for further information.
