Lesson Policies

Students canceling a lesson may select an available make-up lesson that is not on the same day/time as their normal lessons, if lessons are canceled within 24 hours. It is the student/parent responsibility to schedule a make up a lesson, or fee will be forfeited. A make-up lesson CANNOT be scheduled as the next lesson, there are no "credits". If a make-up slot isn't available or a time you can commit to, there will be a group make-up class for you to attend at the end of the semester. **UPDATE: Due to Covid-19, all make-up lessons will be via ZOOM.

In the case that I need to cancel a lesson, I will make sure to help schedule a make-up lesson, or add additional time to reoccurring lessons. I understand illness or emergencies happen, sometimes in less than 24 hours, and in those cases, lessons may also be rescheduled if it is more than 4 hours before your lesson time. If less than 4 hours notice, lesson fee/time will be forfeited. Again, this make-up lesson MUST be scheduled on a day/time that is not your original lesson. Make-up lessons must be scheduled with Kim within a week of missing the lesson and cannot be carried over. You may schedule the lesson for a different week, but again, it must be scheduled with me the same week or fee is forfeited.

Payment is due on the first lesson of the month, in full for the month. If you choose to pay weekly, the fee is increased to the a la carte rate. Payment is a monthly Tuition, not a per week/per lesson fee, unless you pay the a la carte rate, which can be found here

Students wishing to discontinue lessons, must provide 30 days written notice. Under 30 days notice will require a half-month payment to cancel lessons. Some extreme circumstances are exempt.

Students are required to practice vocalise exercises, current song pieces and other assigned homework for a total of 80 minutes a week. Practice charts are to be filled out (can be a plain piece of paper, or print out from my studio)  weekly with songs and exercises practiced. This includes music theory worksheets.

Students are required to have a 3-ring binder to hold all repertoire that I have printed for them. In most cases, I have purchased the music online at musicnotes.com or at a Music and Arts store. Theory books can also be purchased online or through my studio. There will be a yearly fee of $25 to cover costs of materials and recital rental space. **Due to Covid-19, there will be no fee this year.

Students should bring all materials/music and a water bottle to lessons. If taking lessons via ZOOM, please be prepared before you log on to lessons, and be in a well lit space where it is quiet, away from others.

If a month has 5 lessons, you may choose your week off, or use it as a make-up day. If no make-ups are needed, you may purchase the 5th week at a rate of $30 for 30 mins or $40 for 45 mins.

A la carte rates apply if you don't pay the entire month upfront.

There will be a Winter recital and a Spring Recital. Students are expected to attend both recitals and perform at least one solo.

All recitals take place at The Creative and Performing Arts Center in Edgewater, MD. **Due to Covid-19 recitals will take place via YouTube until restrictions have been lifted.

Weather Policy: If AACPS cancels school due to snow, there will be no lessons that day. If they cancel due to other weather, we will decide together if you feel safe enough to travel. If lessons are canceled due to weather, I will work with you to schedule a make-up lesson time. **Or students may "meet" me online via ZOOM for a lesson.

*The exception to the rule: If there is a holiday in the month, I will prorate tuition.
